Family BBQ

On a bright day of May my parents offered to invite some of my friends, who you all know and love, round for some BBQ'd food. It was delicious and the weather was gorgeous, we had some excellent banter some of which cant be shown, and some devastating news for Rhian69...:

And then my mother explained the strange words my Grandmother used to say:

Again Man crushes arise and Adam thinks hes a dinosaur:

And then Adam thinks hes a cat:

TO's Top 5

This is just a few Top 5 lists, feel free to comment and post your own!

Top 5 Current Sporting Heroes

1.LeBron James (Basketballer)

I have never seen any other human do what this man can do, just go onto YouTube and type his name and see for yourself, he is a human highlight reel and carries his team. If i have one ambition its to see this man go to work.

2. Tiger Woods (Golfer)

The pressure this man withstands is unbelievable. The highest paid sports person on the globe yet he can still do his job when all the pressure in the world is on his shoulders. A true sporting legend in every sense.

3. Matt Ryan (American Footballer)

I may be slightly biased but this guys future is bright, one to look out for. Has the potential to be the best QB in the NFL and plays fo' my team!

4. Usain Bolt (Sprinter)

Tell me you don't wish you could run like this man. The fastest man alive. Hes running from something and doing it fast! Amazing to witness and just seems to get better and better. Defies anyone that says tall people are slower.

5. Lionel Messi (Footballer)

So exciting to watch and can take on a team by himself. I wanted to spread the love over a few sports and this guy is the best at his. Can change a whole game with one darting run and only just beginning a long career.

Top 5 Movies

1. Transformers (2007)

I admit this is an unhealthy obsession. 7 trips to the cinema and i loved every single one. Absolutely epic film from start to finish and perfectly done by Michael Bay.

2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

This film is the ultimate story of patience. So many lessons can be learnt from this movie and i think it deserves to take its place in history as one of the most amazingly put together masterpieces ever. From acting to storyline and dialogue this film is A*.

3. The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

This movie is helped by the fact it is a true story and that just tugs on the heart strings that little harder. Story that will make anyone want to be the best father on the planet. Guaranteed tear jerker, even for the most emotionally strong males.

4. American History X (1998)

Excellent drama to get across the message of anti-racism at a time that needed it most. One of Edward Nortons most notable appearances (and that says a lot, he is top notch)

5. City of God (Cidade de Deus) (2002)

Brazilian film in Portuguese but nothing is lost in translation, again another film with a strong message attached that many can learn from.

Top 5 Albums

1. STILLmatic by NaS

Every single song is at least a 8/10 on this album, every lyric meaningful and every beat tight. This is literally what a perfect album sounds like. Ironically many believe Illmatic to be the best. Nuh huh.

2. Tha Carter III by Lil' Wayne

Again another album where nearly every track is hot. This album surprised a lot of people and thrust Lil' Wayne into the fore front. However, this doesnt reflect the great lyrics and music that Weezy made on this album, the mainstream attention only detracts from the message he is trying to get across.

3. This is My Demo by Sway

For an album that was independently released (by himself out of a car boot) this is unbelievable. Again 80% of the album is hot, all killer no filler. Pre sell out music at its highest peak, representing the UK in the best way.

4. 2001 by Dr. Dre

Era defining album with some of the best production this century. Signature Dre, and for me, his best piece of work. Even those who are not into Hip-Hop know at least 2 tracks on this album and that really says it all.

5. The Sneak Attack by KRS-One

Again and underground rapper that likes to keep it that way because his messages are real. Great lyrics and hard beats, this is one album to try and get your hands on. No corporate influence, KRS says it how it is.

Top 5 Books

1. God Delusion by Richard Dawkins

This book affected my life in so many ways. And, like religion is compulsary in schools, i think this book should be too. This book taught me not to be ashamed to be an athiest and the debates learned in this book stay with me everyday of my life and gave me a sense of freedom i have never recieved from a book before or since.

2. Redemption by Stanley 'Tookie' Williams

The ultimate true story of redemption and forgiveness. Another story not to be missed and that lessons can be taken from. Do not spend your days missing this epic true life story and do yourself a favour, read this book.

3. Total Access by Rich Eisen

Excellent behind the scenes look at NFL and how everything works. Hilariously written and a pleasant read that never gets boring and seems to fly, probably because your having fun.

4. The Blind Side by Michael Lewis

Excellent true story that i've already documented on my blog before. The story is slightly harrowing in places but because it is true it only earns your respect. This will make you wake up and say to yourself 'im going to do something with my life!'

5. Angels and Demons by Dan Brown

Excellent story that really gets one thinking and feeling like the characters. The very definition of a page turner and the only Fiction book in my list. Highly recommended and definitely better than the movie remake.

I recommend everything and everyone in this post!

Much Love

Celebrities

Recently at the Cinema I watched the next X-Men film and as we were walking out, Adam and I, debated furiously about who is better Hugh Jackman or Ryan Reynolds (see earlier video). This got me to thinking about celebrities and their allure.

Why does the phenomenon of celebrity exist? How does one go about becoming a celebrity? What separates a celebrity from you and I?

Dictionary.com's definition of a 'celebrity':-

–noun
1. a famous or well-known person.
2. fame; renown.

I think contemporary technology plays a massive part in todays celebrity, to the point where posters on YouTube have become famous (and therefore celebs.) You can watch an episode of South Park that mocks this very fact, yet you all know which video each character is refering too (or at least one).

Either way, we are more interconnected than ever and it makes it that much easier to share news, views and information on certain people that we wish to discuss. With the click of a button you can search someones key information and know literally almost everything about them. This has got to the point where appear on wikipedia is 'making it'.

Why do we insist on thinking that celebrities are any different to 'normal' people? In reality they are exactly the same as each of us, yet their talents are demanded by the masses, making them commodities. This can also be reversed to show that in the cruel world of stardom one can be flung out as quickly as one was held up. These people are no more special than Felix, Rhian or any other readers. And we shouldnt treat them any differently either.

That being said, millions strive endlessly, appearing on basic rate programs on MTV (yes you Stephen Beard and the 'cast', i use the term losely, of "Living on the Edge") just to try and get personal and public adulation and for what? It will not ever satisfy those needs. Once a certain height has been reached they will always want more. Yes the money would be nice, but again they would always want more.

A Buddhist Zen Master once told me that "the grass will always be greener on the other side, because one tramples the grass one is standing on". I have always believed this to be true. Utopia by definition does not exist because Utopia is without you. As soon as you step foot in Utopia it is no longer that. We should all make the most of the world we live in now, and the most of the life we have.

Dont wish it away trying to be something, you already are something.
