Challenging Yourself.....Again

As some of you may know, I like to check in at seminal (always loved the way the word means important but also 'containing semen') moments in my life.

About every 3 months I've checked my goals and see if I'm anyway near them or if i'm realising them.

August 2009

January 2010

My short term goals for 2010 were:

  • Get a place on a Graduate Scheme
  • 5 Goals at the end of the season for D&C Athletic
  • Rent my first home
  • Visit a city I have never been before
  • See the Atlanta Falcons play
I'm in the process of getting on a Grad scheme at my current work, but thats not in the bag yet. I've got 3 of the 5 goals I need. I'm looking into moving out, and I better start saving for a trip to Atlanta in september for the new NFL season to cover the last two!

Here's one more I want to add to the 2010 list:
  • Get my CBT Motorbike license and possibly a bike

"And if you come up from under that water and there's fresh air, just breathe baby, God's got a blessin' to spare. I know the process is so much stress but it's the progress that feels the best. I came from the projects straight to success and you're next, just try, they can't steal your pride, it's inside. Then find it and keep on grindin' 'cause in every dark cloud theres a silver linin'; I know."

A Rebirth or an Evolution?

Earlier this week, Amazon made a BIG error. They sent out 500 copies of Lil' Wayne's new 'rock album', Rebirth, despite its release date being postponed to February 1st 2010.

It remains to be seen whether this will affect album sales and whether Wayne himself will change the tracklist for the official release.

It is presumed Wayne wanted the album to be released to coincide with his prison sentence as to maximise his exposure during a time of incarceration when he will have very little.

The actual album itself (don't ask how i obtained a copy, and i'll tell you no lies) is suprisingly addictive. The tracks aren't immediately impressive, but make you want to hear it again. And in doing so, you find the tracks grow on you.

There was a worry that Wayne wouldn't stray to far into the rock genre and would just play around with guitar riffs etc, those worrying needn't of bothered. He goes in, and goes in hard. Harsh vocals, harsh electric guitar, harsh drums. Its all there. And it works.

The biggest track of note is 'Drop the world' and features Eminem. This looks like the albums signature track as the label have made a concerted effort to clamp down on the sharing of this track in particular.

Heres one of the best tracks called 'Knockout' featuring Nicki Minaj:

Weezy F. Baby

Lil' Wayne was spectacular. The rapper brought his A-game and gave a thrilling live performance. Those fans who missed one of the London shows will be killing themselves as this gig showed exactly why Weezy is at the top of his game and going hard.

Listening to him live has now made him sound even better when hearing him recorded. His rendition of '3 Peat' was remarkably emotional and his whole performance seemed exceptionally committed.

As you can see here, even the light show was top class. The support from Young Money Entertainment (Weezy's company) was also epic. Jae Millz, Mack Maine, Guddha Guddha, Birdman and Shanell were all on top form. Even the DJ, 4 Over 5, was noticibly good.

This leads me to salute the British support act, Master Shortie. I had never heard of him until the gig but checked him out after his energetic performance and ended up buying his album

Check him out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsWVqOg-4Zg&feature=youtube_gdata

For me this gig has made Lil' Wayne iconic. He has so much potential and with that comes the chance to let fans down. He made a speech and thanked all of his fans and showed he values the support. This guys the real deal, the 'Best Rapper Alive'.

Peace,

Yaaaaa Digggggg?

How far would you go to see an artist that you think is one of the biggest influences since the turn of the millenium?

Well, while London may not be a globe trotting flight away its still a 6 hour coach ride there and 7 hour 1am-7am coach ride back. But, oh lord should it be worth it.

Young Money have been confirmed as support, this means (hopefully) Drake will be making an appearance. This is almost as big as Lil' Wayne himself.

So, if Atem and I make it to London without killing ourselves or each other we will be able to see the 'Greatest Rapper Alive'. That however, presents it's own problems. Lil' Wayne's fan base spans from the darkest ghetto hoodlums to the cocaine-rich elite. Therefore, we'll either get stabbed up for our phones or shot for disrespecting someones personal space...

Wish us luck...
